About the Company

Sapien Engineering has been created by two Design & Development recruiters dedicated to their field within the Engineering and Manufacturing industries, supporting both permanent and contract employment.

They both have their own personal ties to engineering through family and personal interest, having been in their respective spaces since 2017 & 2018. In that time having seen the rise and fall, and rise again of the Engineering & Manufacturing sector, has given them the experience to deal with almost any employment market.

At Sapien, the idea is to utilise their skills within Design & Development across the varied disciplines they know and understand (listed below) to offer a more expert and dependable recruitment service to their clients in a market where there are so many generalists.

Job Description
**Job title:** Electronic Test Engineer **Role Summary:** Perform electronic component-level testing, PCB inspection, and failure analysis to support high‑reliability defence/aerospace systems. Resolve faults through debugging and repair, ensuring compliance with rigorous quality standards. **Expectations:** - 3–6 month contract, hourly remuneration. - Provide technical expertise in a defence/aerospace environment. **Key Responsibilities:** - Execute electronic test procedures on individual components and assemblies. - Inspect PCBs for manufacturing defects and deviation from specifications. - Identify, debug, and repair fault conditions using test equipment and systematic troubleshooting. - Document test results, failure analysis, and corrective actions. - Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams to improve product reliability. **Required Skills:** - Proficiency in electronic test equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, network analyzers, DMMs). - Strong knowledge of PCB design, assembly processes, and troubleshooting techniques. - Experience with failure analysis and root‑cause determination. - Ability to interpret schematics, data sheets, and technical specifications. - Excellent communication and documentation skills. **Required Education & Certifications:** - Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering or related field (preferred). - Relevant experience in defence or aerospace testing; certifications such as IPC‑J-STD‑001, QUALLEC, or equivalent are an advantage.

Job Description
**Job Title:** Software Engineering Team Lead **Role Summary:** Lead a cross‑functional software engineering team in the aerospace/defence sector. Oversee embedded C++ development, implement Agile and TDD practices, and maintain CI/CD pipelines. Lead code quality, testing, and delivery of embedded systems for UAVs, robotics, and video processing. Drive process improvements, scope definition, and team scaling while ensuring compliance with security clearance requirements. **Expectations:** - Secure SC Clearance eligibility. - Deliver high‑quality embedded software that meets defence‑grade reliability. - Foster a culture of continuous improvement and rigorous testing. - Manage and mentor a globally distributed team. **Key Responsibilities:** - Lead and mentor the software engineering team, setting clear goals and reviewing progress against milestones. - Define project scope, requirements, and acceptance criteria. - Drive Agile ceremonies (stand‑ups, sprint planning, retrospectives) and ensure TDD, CI/CD, and automated testing are integrated into the workflow. - Own code quality, perform code reviews, and enforce coding standards. - Coordinate with QA to design manual and automated test plans, ensuring comprehensive coverage. - Manage risk and resolve technical blockers, keeping stakeholders informed. - Optimize development processes and deliverables to meet tight defence deadlines. - Scale team structure and responsibilities while maintaining performance and quality. **Required Skills:** - Embedded software development in C++ (expert level). - Proficiency in Agile methodologies, TDD, and CI/CD pipelines. - Experience with manual and automated testing tools. - Practical knowledge of robotics software and video processing/encoding frameworks. - Proven track record on UAVs, aerospace or large‑scale defence projects. - Leadership experience: team scoping, delivery, and global team management. - Strong communication, problem‑solving, and stakeholder‑management skills. **Required Education & Certifications:** - Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electronics, or a related technical discipline. - Relevant industry certifications (e.g., C++ certification, Agile or Scrum Master) are a plus. ---
