About the Company

Lawyers in Local Government (LLG) was formed in April 2013 by the merger of the Association of Council Secretaries and Solicitors (ACSeS) and Solicitors in Local Government (SLG).

LLG's primary purpose is to represent, promote and support the interests of its members.

Membership is open to local government legal or governance officers working within a local authority, including Monitoring Officers and their deputies, solicitors, barristers, legal executives, licenced conveyancers and trainees.

Job Description
**Job Title:** Senior Information Governance and Data Protection Officer **Role Summary:** Act as the Council’s Data Protection Officer (DPO), leading organization-wide compliance with information governance and data protection legislation. Advise on legal and regulatory compliance, lead improvement initiatives, and ensure robust data management practices. **Expectations:** - Provide expert guidance on compliance with data protection laws and transparency legislation. - Drive strategic improvement in information governance and records management. - Investigate data breaches, review agreements, and coordinate governance reporting. - Deliver training and support organizational compliance during structural changes. **Key Responsibilities:** 1. Lead programs to enhance organizational compliance with information governance standards. 2. Advise on adherence to FOI, GDPR, DPA, EIR, and related regulations. 3. Manage data breach investigations, privacy notices, and data sharing agreements. 4. Oversee transparency legislation compliance and prepare reports for governing boards. 5. Ensure effective data retention, cleansing, and governance strategies. 6. Coordinate Annual Governance Statements, Codes of Corporate Governance, and related documentation. 7. Deliver training and refresher sessions for staff on data protection and information governance. **Required Skills:** - Proven extensive experience in information governance, records management, and data protection. - Expert knowledge of UK GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018, Freedom of Information Act 2000, and associated regulations. - Demonstrated ability to lead compliance initiatives and conduct risk assessments (e.g., DPIAs). - Strong communication skills for advising stakeholders and delivering training. - Experience coordinating governance statements and corporate governance documentation. **Required Education & Certifications:** - Relevant bachelor’s degree or higher in information governance, law, or a related field. - Professional certifications in data protection or information governance (e.g., CIPP/E, DPO certification) preferred.
