Job Description
Job Title: Risk & Best Practice Manager Role Summary: Lead the firm’s risk and compliance strategy across all practice areas, ensuring adherence to SRA Standards, data protection legislation, and other regulatory requirements while fostering a culture of ethical practice and proactive risk management. Expectations: Deliver timely, evidence‑based risk advice; implement and maintain robust risk frameworks; drive continuous improvement in compliance processes; support leadership with actionable insights and strategic recommendations. Key Responsibilities: - Advise partners and business units on professional conduct, ethics, regulatory compliance, data protection, and conflicts of interest. - Assess risk implications of new initiatives and strategic changes in collaboration with legal and business services leaders. - Monitor, interpret, and disseminate developments in law and regulation, advising on their impact on the firm. - Manage and execute key risk and compliance projects, ensuring milestones are achieved and outcomes embedded. - Draft, review, and update risk‑management policies, guidance notes, and precedent documents (e.g., engagement letters, terms of business). - Design and deliver tailored training programs for diverse practice groups and staff levels. - Prepare briefing papers and present complex issues to the Risk Committee. - Mentor junior team members and support team development. Required Skills: - Extensive experience in risk & compliance within a law firm setting. - Deep understanding of SRA Standards, data protection law (GDPR), and the broader legal regulatory framework. - Proven project‑management and policy‑development capabilities. - Strong analytical, written, and oral communication skills. - Leadership and coaching experience; ability to influence senior stakeholders. Required Education & Certifications: - Qualified solicitor status (desirable). - Legal or related professional qualification with demonstrated compliance expertise.
