Job Description

**Job Title:** Principal Software Engineer **Role Summary** Senior technical leader guiding a tribe of squads in a global energy technology organization. Owns software quality standards, leads architecture decisions, mentors engineers, and ensures alignment with core platform and product strategy. **Expectations** - Deliver a consistent, high‑quality engineering culture across 2–3 squads or a wide‑impact domain. - Act as the central authority on technical standards, code quality, and best practices. - Influence senior stakeholders and drive continuous improvement. - Balance strategic leadership with hands‑on engineering when necessary. **Key Responsibilities** - Define and enforce tribe‑wide software engineering standards and a roadmap for codebase evolution. - Coordinate with Product Architects and Core Platform teams to align technical direction with business vision. - Create, triage, and prioritize technical debt items, ensuring they enter squad backlogs or are resolved by the Principal. - Mentor Lead Engineers and squad members; provide training, technical surgeries, and guidance to remove blockers. - Review pull requests, identify high‑risk work early, and help teams achieve first‑time acceptance. - Drive research, proof‑of‑concepts, scaffolds, and frameworks that support long‑term goals. - Champion best practices across the Engineering Chapter, share knowledge, and influence the wider organization. - Communicate effectively with senior stakeholders, presenting technical insights and justifying decisions. **Required Skills** *Technical:* - Extensive experience leading large, complex codebases. - Deep understanding of modern software architecture, CI/CD, and quality assurance. - Proven ability to coach and mentor senior engineers. *Soft:* - Strategic thinking with a focus on long‑term business impact. - Strong communication, influence, and persuasion abilities. - Organized, prioritised, and structured approach to work. - Experience in remote, multi‑disciplinary teams is advantageous. **Required Education & Certifications** - Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field. - Professional certifications in architecture or software engineering (e.g., TOGAF, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert) are a plus.
