Job title: Founding Research Scientist / Research Engineer
Role Summary:
Lead the design and implementation of end‑to‑end machine‑learning pipelines, research tooling, and infrastructure for an autonomous AI scientist platform. Works at the intersection of ML research, scientific computing, and high‑performance engineering to accelerate discovery in materials science and automation.
Expectations:
- Duration: Full‑time, long‑term founding role
- Collaboration with researchers, materials scientists, and robotics engineers
- Ownership of critical infrastructure from development to production
- Continuous experimentation with novel ML methods and HPC/cloud deployments
Key Responsibilities:
- Engineer distributed training and inference pipelines (PyTorch, TensorFlow, etc.) for large scientific datasets
- Build and maintain data processing, simulation, and experiment‑automation workflows
- Prototype and evaluate cutting‑edge ML algorithms in partnership with domain experts
- Optimize system performance, scalability, and reproducibility on HPC and cloud platforms
- Develop evaluation frameworks for structured and unstructured scientific data
- Integrate research tools with simulation, experimental hardware, and reasoning engines
- Collaborate across interdisciplinary teams to align technical solutions with scientific goals
Required Skills:
- Proficiency in Python, Git, Linux, and modern ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, etc.)
- Experience with large‑scale distributed training, data pipelines, and model deployment
- Strong software‑engineering fundamentals (clean code, testing, CI/CD)
- Familiarity with HPC clusters, cloud compute (AWS, GCP, Azure), and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Ability to prototype and validate new ML algorithms quickly
- Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to explain complex concepts to diverse teams
- Self‑driven, adaptable in a fast‑changing research environment
Required Education & Certifications:
- Bachelor’s, Master’s, PhD, or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or related technical field.
