Job Description
**Job Title**: Data Scientist **Role Summary**: Deliver analytics products and services for a digital services unit that supports higher education admissions. Use statistical analysis, machine learning, and data visualization to transform data into insights, improve live data products, and support marketing, policy research, and customer‑facing dashboards. **Expectations**: - Produce high‑quality analytical outputs on schedule and within budget. - Communicate complex findings to technical and non‑technical stakeholders. - Champion data science best practices and user‑focused solutions. **Key Responsibilities**: 1. Explore and preprocess internal and external datasets. 2. Build, test, and deploy statistical, numerical, and machine‑learning models (supervised & unsupervised). 3. Design and maintain data visualizations and dashboards for internal users. 4. Monitor and improve the performance of live data products. 5. Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to translate business problems into analytical solutions. 6. Mentor junior analysts and contribute to team knowledge sharing. **Required Skills**: - Proficiency in Python or R; clean, efficient coding and use of libraries such as pandas, scikit‑learn, caret, or equivalent. - Strong understanding of statistical methods, machine‑learning algorithms, and model evaluation metrics. - Experience with data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI, matplotlib, ggplot). - Ability to write reproducible code, use version control (Git), and document analytical workflows. - Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to explain technical concepts to non‑technical audiences. - Collaborative mindset with commercial awareness and a user‑focused approach. **Required Education & Certifications**: - Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science, operations research, or a related quantitative discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
