Job Description

Job Title: Circulation Student Assistant Role Summary Assist library patrons with inquiries and transactions, maintain the library collection, perform opening/closing tasks, and monitor building premises. Expectations - Prompt, reliable, and responsible with excellent attendance - Solid communication skills and customer‑service orientation - Strong organizational abilities and attention to detail - Basic computing proficiency (Windows/ library software) - Ability to solve problems and adapt to changing schedules - Dress casually with modesty; ability to lift up to 30 lb - Pass a routine background check Key Responsibilities - Conduct circulation duties: check‑in, check‑out, holds, class reserves, interlibrary loans - Field and answer patron questions about library services and academic resources - Keep the collection orderly: organize, shelve, shelf‑read, and review materials - Open and close the library, ensuring all procedures are followed - Monitor building security and premises during open hours - Attend all mandatory circulation meetings and training sessions - Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned Required Skills - Clear verbal communication and active listening - Customer‑service mindset and hospitality in interactions - Organizational and time‑management skills - Basic computer literacy (Word, Excel, library circulation systems) - Attention to detail and accuracy in data entry - Problem‑solving and decision‑making ability - Physical capability to lift 30 lb and reposition shelving as needed - Flexibility to work varying shifts (6–10 hrs per week, Spring) Required Education & Certifications - Currently enrolled as a student (no specific degree level required) - No mandatory certifications; compliance with university background‑check policy required.
