**Job Title:** Engineering Degree Apprentice (Level 6 – Manufacturing Engineering) **Role Summary:** Four‑year apprenticeship combining on‑the‑job training at an advanced food manufacturing facility with university study at Aston University. Job Description
**Job Title:** Multi‑Skilled Engineer **Role Summary:** Operate within a commercial animal feed mill to optimise equipment performance, minimise downtime and uphold stringent hygiene and safety standards. Perform preventive and reactive maintenance, participate in mechanical and electrical projects, and ensure compliance with regulatory and internal audits. **Expectations:** - Minimum Level 3 engineering qualification, preferably IEE 17th or 18th Edition. - Experience in a multi‑skilled engineering apprenticeship or equivalent. - Demonstrated safety‑first mindset, ability to work under pressure, and strong diagnostic skills. **Key Responsibilities:** - Conduct planned preventive maintenance and reactive repairs on plant and equipment. - Rapidly respond to breakdowns, identify root causes, and implement preventive improvements. - Communicate unscheduled incidents to management and coordinate with operations to minimise plant disruption. - Record spare‑part usage and maintenance activities in CMMS, reporting to the Engineering Manager. - Follow engineering standards, hygiene practices, and audit requirements across the site. - Ensure activities comply with health, safety, and environmental legislation. - Perform regular calibrations of process weighers and liquid meters (Weights & Measures Act). - Operate safely in hazardous environments (confined space, hot working, WAH). - Support mechanical projects: elevators, conveyors, machine installations, refurbishments. - Support electrical projects: panel manufacture, PLC upgrades, PAT testing, thermographic surveys. - Maintain effluent plant systems for environmental compliance. - Operate and understand fire suppression systems (fire trace, sprinklers, hydrants). - Apply knowledge of DSEAR, dust control, and explosion mitigation. **Required Skills:** - Strong diagnostic and problem‑solving abilities. - Excellent attention to detail and capacity to work under pressure. - Proactive, dynamic approach to safety and hygiene. - Effective communication and teamwork in a small‑team environment. - Mechanical and electrical proficiency; experience with PLC, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems is desirable. **Required Education & Certifications:** - Level 3 engineering qualification (minimum). - IEE 17th or 18th Edition (desirable). - PLC certification (desirable). - Pneumatic and hydraulic experience (desirable). - Boiler Operator Accreditation Scheme (BOAS) certification (desirable).
