**Job Title**
Fire & Security Technical Support Engineer
**Role Summary**
Provide nationwide technical support, installation, commissioning, fault‑finding and training for a UK franchise network. Work predominantly remotely with periodic on‑site visits, ensuring consistent technical standards, compliance with British Standards, and high‑quality service across all branches.
**Expectations**
* Senior engineering level with proven hands‑on commissioning experience
* National travel with overnight stays as required
* Strong problem‑solving, communication, and leadership skills
* Ability to develop and deliver technical training and mentoring
**Key Responsibilities**
* Serve as the primary technical contact for all franchise branches via phone, email, Teams, and on‑site visits
* Troubleshoot and resolve issues in fire alarms, intruder alarms, CCTV, and access control systems
* Conduct commissioning, fault‑finding, and system integration support
* Assist with design, specifications, quotations, and site surveys
* Deliver structured training, toolbox talks, and development pathways for engineers and apprentices
* Maintain current knowledge of BS5839, BS5266, BS EN54, NSI/NACOSS, and related legislation
* Create and update technical documentation, guidance notes, and standard procedures
* Support internal compliance audits and prepare branches for external audit appointments
* Mentor new franchisees through joint site visits, guided surveys, installation best practice, client interaction, and costings/quotations (using Uptick)
* Provide feedback to senior management for continuous improvement
* Collaborate with Head Office teams (Operations, Compliance, Training, Franchise Development)
**Required Skills**
* Extensive experience installing, servicing, and commissioning fire alarm and security systems (addressable fire alarms, conventional fire alarms, intruder alarms, CCTV, access control)
* Senior or lead engineer level, with system design and survey expertise
* Knowledge of BS5839, BS5266, BS EN54, NSI/NACOSS requirements
* Competence in quotations, documentation, and technical reporting
* Strong problem‑solving, calm and supportive approach
* Excellent verbal and written communication; ability to translate technical detail into clear guidance
* Strong documentation and organisational skills
* Comfortable leading engineers and presenting to customers
* National travel availability; overnight stays when needed
* Full UK driving licence
**Required Education & Certifications**
* Relevant apprenticeship, NVQ Level 3, or degree in Fire Safety Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline
* Certifications in BS5839, BS5266, BS EN54 (or equivalent industry standards)
* Valid UK Security Screening clearance (BS7858)
