**Job Title**
AI Research Intern
**Role Summary**
Support the AI Research & Development team in building foundation models using multi‑modal surgical data (image, video, text, robotics). Collaborate on research, algorithm design, and software for training, evaluation, and deployment, advancing state‑of‑the‑art AI in surgical robotics.
**Expectations**
- Self‑motivated, full‑time commitment (~40 hrs/week) for a 10–12‑week internship beginning in October 2024.
- Must be currently enrolled in an accredited degree‑seeking program (Master’s or Doctorate) in CS, EE, Robotics, or related field, returning to study in the Fall.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Research, design, and implement AI algorithms for multi‑modal data.
- Develop software pipelines for training, evaluation, and testing of models.
- Create and refine evaluation metrics; conduct extensive validation experiments to analyze accuracy, efficiency, and generalizability.
- Work with existing datasets and contribute to new dataset creation.
**Required Skills**
- Proficient in Python.
- Hands‑on experience with deep‑learning frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, Caffe).
- Knowledge of state‑of‑the‑art language models, text retrieval, and LLM libraries (HuggingFace, LLaMa, LangChain, LlamaIndex).
- Experience with RLHF, DPO, finetuning, Retrieval Augmented Generation, Chain‑of‑Thought, and multi‑agent reasoning.
- Familiarity with model quantization, edge deployment, prompt engineering, or data synthesis.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and collaborative skills.
**Required Education & Certifications**
- Current enrollment in an accredited Master’s or Doctorate program in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics (AI/ML/Computer Vision), or a closely related field.
