Job Description
**Job Title:** Operations Geologist **Role Summary:** Contract operations geologist responsible for planning, monitoring, and post‑well analysis of oil and gas drilling campaigns. Acts as liaison between subsurface geology team and drilling operations to ensure geological objectives are met safely and efficiently. **Expectations:** - Fixed‑term (12 months) contract. - Work from office with on‑call availability during critical drilling phases. - Deliver high‑quality geological input to drilling teams, maintain strict HSSE standards, and ensure compliance with UK regulatory frameworks. **Key Responsibilities:** - Prepare and review geological programme documents (Well Proposal Document, DWOP). - Conduct pre‑drill risk assessments, including fault and salt body analyses. - Coordinate drilling objectives with subsurface and drilling engineers. - Manage real‑time drilling data (MWD/LWD, mudlogging, wireline). - QA/QC geological logs and daily reports; distribute to rig and onshore teams. - Determine casing points and data acquisition decisions; support geosteering and trajectory adjustments. - Supervise and evaluate performance of external geological service providers. - Compile end‑of‑well reports, composite logs, and lessons‑learned documentation. - Submit required notifications to NSTA (WONS and data repository). - Promote and enforce HSSE standards throughout all operations. **Required Skills:** - Proven experience in wellsite or operations geology in the oil & gas sector. - Deep knowledge of MWD/LWD, mudlogging, wireline, and coring operations. - Proficiency with geological software (e.g., Geolog) and real‑time data interpretation tools. - Familiarity with UK drilling regulations and NSTA WONS permitting process. - Strong analytical, decision‑making, and multi‑priority management skills. - Excellent communication, teamwork, and safety‑first mindset. **Required Education & Certifications:** - Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Geology, Geoscience, or a related discipline. - Experience working in the Southern North Sea or similar offshore environment highly desirable. - No specific certifications required beyond the degree, but demonstrated competency in regulatory compliance and HSSE practices is essential.
