**Job Title:** Postgres Administrator
**Role Summary:**
Administer and maintain PostgreSQL database environments in a remote contract setting. Optimize performance, ensure data integrity, and secure access while automating routine tasks. Extend responsibilities to Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) cluster management including networking, ingress/egress, and service mesh.
**Expectations:**
- Remote, long‑term contract
- Primary focus on PostgreSQL administration; secondary on AKS
- Deliver high‑availability, secure, and optimized database services
- Facilitate migrations, upgrades, and disaster recovery efforts
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Install, configure, and upgrade PostgreSQL database servers
- Monitor performance metrics and tune queries for optimal efficiency
- Design and test backup and recovery procedures, ensuring rapid data restoration
- Manage database security: user roles, permissions, and encryption settings
- Troubleshoot and resolve database performance or connectivity issues
- Automate routine administrative tasks through scripts or CI/CD pipelines
- Plan and execute database migrations, upgrades, and schema changes
- Maintain comprehensive documentation for database architecture and procedures
- Collaborate with development and operations teams for seamless deployments
- Participate in disaster recovery planning and drills
- Manage AKS deployments with varying networking options (CNI, Kubenet, Overlay)
- Configure AKS egress/ingress traffic patterns and network policies
- Deploy and oversee third‑party Ingress Controllers via Gateway API or legacy implementations
- Implement image integrity checks using tools such as Ratify
- Set up Istio Service Mesh for internal and external AKS networking
- Package and install AKS services using Helm charts
**Required Skills:**
- PostgreSQL: installation, configuration, upgrade, performance tuning, backup/recovery, security, troubleshooting, automation scripts
- Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS): deployment, networking (CNI, Kubenet, Overlay), ingress/egress, network policies, ingress controllers, Gateway API, image integrity tooling (e.g., Ratify), Istio Service Mesh, Helm packaging
- SQL query optimization and troubleshooting
- Familiarity with DevOps practices (CI/CD, version control)
- Documentation and collaboration across cross‑functional teams
**Required Education & Certifications:**
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience)
- Relevant certifications preferred: PostgreSQL Certified DBA, Microsoft Certified: Azure Kubernetes Service, or similar credentials in database administration and Kubernetes
