At Finsbury, we produce a wide range of cakes, bread and bakery snacks for the main UK supermarkets own labels, and for leading high-street restaurant chains, hotels and pubs. We also make celebration cakes under licence for many well-known brands such as Disney and Thornton's, and are a leading maker of speciality breads such as Cranks and Vogels.

We do all this from 8 bakery businesses all over the UK, trading under various different names on 8 sites. Our bread division produces fresh and frozen rolls, hot cross buns, muffins, artisan bread, healthy lifestyle and organic breads, baguettes, doughnuts and morning pastries. Our cake division creates premium sponge cake, loaf cake, seasonal cakes, celebration cakes and individually portioned sweet snacks, such as chocolate cake bites, cake slices, cake bars and mini rolls.

Job Description
**Job Title**: Engineering Shift Manager **Role Summary** Oversee daily and weekly preventive maintenance (PPM) programmes for a food production site, ensuring high equipment reliability, minimal production downtime, and adherence to safety and GMP standards. Lead a team of engineering technicians, coordinate resources, and drive continuous improvement initiatives. **Expectations** - Manage engineering shifts (Mon‑Fri 6:00‑14:30 / 11:30‑20:00) with occasional weekend coverage (10 Saturday shifts per year). - Maintain downtime below 2% and respond promptly to faults. - Report, document, and analyze maintenance data via Mainsaver CMMS and MARA system. - Uphold safety, GMP compliance, and quality across all maintenance activities. **Key Responsibilities** - Plan, schedule, and monitor week‑ahead and daily PPM tasks. - Evaluate breakdowns and work orders, assign priorities, and allocate resources. - Escalate issues, produce status reports, and ensure accurate CMMS documentation. - Lead, coach, and develop a team of direct reports; manage succession planning. - Identify and implement process and safety improvements. - Support Continuous Improvement (CI) projects and reduce maintenance costs. - Ensure all engineering operations comply with GMP and legislative health & safety standards. **Required Skills** - Front‑line management experience in FMCG/food manufacturing. - Advanced knowledge of PPM and maintenance planning. - Strong analytical, numeracy, and data interpretation skills. - Proactive problem‑solving and process‑improvement mindset. - Excellent verbal communication and stakeholder engagement. - Ability to lead, develop and motivate a technical team. - Familiarity with CMMS (Mainsaver) and ticketing systems (MARA). **Required Education & Certifications** - Apprentice‑trained, multi‑skilled engineer with a recognised Mechanical or Electrical Engineering qualification (e.g., City & Guilds). - Accepts qualification in manufacturing systems as a plus. **Desirable (not mandatory)** - Project management experience. - Lean/Continuous Improvement background. - Ability to conduct Engineering and Process Risk Assessments. - Budget management skills.
