Data Analyst
Role Summary
Senior‑level Data Analyst/Report Writer supporting the Texas Department of State Health Services Environmental Epidemiology and Disease Registries Section. Provides end‑to‑end data solutions—acquisition, cleansing, analysis, modeling, and reporting—to inform executive decision‑making and drive operational efficiencies.
Expatations
• Deliver actionable insights from complex, multi‑source datasets.
• Operate independently with minimal supervision while collaborating across technical and program teams.
• Own the full data‑analysis lifecycle: requirement gathering, data engineering, analytics, reporting, and presentation to leadership.
• Ensure all deliverables meet agency data policies, quality standards, and confidentiality requirements.
Key Responsibilities
• Acquire, clean, and validate data from disparate sources (internal systems, external datasets).
• Build and maintain as‑is / to‑be data models and metadata catalogs to support analytical workflows.
• Design and develop dashboards, visualizations, and reports using Power BI, Tableau, or equivalent tools.
• Conduct deep statistical and trend analyses to identify correlations, performance metrics, and operational gaps.
• Draft concise findings, executive summaries, and recommendations; present insights to senior leadership.
• Document data processes, SDLC artifacts (gap analysis, requirements, design, test cases), and data governance impacts.
• Lead or support special data‑driven projects assigned by agency leadership.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to optimize workflows and data utilization.
Required Skills
• Minimum 8 years of experience in data analysis, reporting, and business intelligence.
• Proficiency in data mapping, process improvement, and benchmarks.
• Advanced skills in dashboarding and data visualization (Power BI, Tableau, or similar).
• Experience developing metadata, user‑friendly reporting interfaces, and complex analytical tools.
• Strong analytical reasoning, detail orientation, and ability to translate raw data into actionable insights.
• Knowledge of data policies, standards, and procedures impacting systems and operations.
Required Education & Certifications
• Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Data Analytics, Statistics, Computer Science, or related field.
• Certifications in Power BI, Tableau, or other BI tools are preferred but not mandatory.
