BMC Discovery Engineer
**Role Summary**
Provide operational leadership for the BMC Discovery platform, a Linux‑centric configuration management system. Oversee provisioning, monitoring, automation, and incident response for a globally distributed infrastructure. Collaborate with development, QA, and product teams to optimize reliability, performance, and release velocity, while maintaining security and compliance standards.
**Expectations**
- Deliver production‑ready infrastructure with high availability, capacity, and performance.
- Champion automation, self‑healing, and deployment best practices across the service lifecycle.
- Communicate proactively with stakeholders, providing status updates, root‑cause analyses, and improvement recommendations.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Configure, deploy, and administer Linux (CentOS, RHEL, OEL, Ubuntu) servers and the BMC Discovery application.
- Manage network connectivity, credential provisioning, and integration with cloud APIs (AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Troubleshoot SSH, WMI, PowerShell, SNMP, and API issues.
- Plan and execute upgrades, releases, migrations, and orchestration changes.
- Implement monitoring, alerting, and incident response; conduct blameless post‑mortems.
- Create and maintain documentation, procedures, and best‑practice guides.
- Mentor junior engineers and promote continuous improvement of Business Operations methods.
- Drive automation via CI/CD, configuration management (Chef, Ansible, Puppet), and deployment tools (Jenkins, XL Release, Octopus, etc.).
- Support ITIL processes, change control, ITSM tools (ServiceNow, Remedy), and CMDB integration.
**Required Skills**
- 4+ years of Linux system administration (CentOS, RHEL, OEL, Ubuntu).
- BMC Discovery administration experience.
- Network troubleshooting: SSH, WMI, PowerShell, SNMP, cloud APIs.
- Scripting: Bash, Python, Perl, PowerShell.
- CI/CD and automation tooling: Chef, Ansible, Puppet, Jenkins, XL Release, Octopus, XL Release, Satellite, Flow.
- Windows Server 2012+ knowledge and domain concepts.
- Security‑first mindset and customer‑first orientation.
- Strong communication, problem‑solving, and stakeholder‑management skills.
- Comfortable with change control, ITIL fundamentals, and ITSM platforms.
**Required Education & Certifications**
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Network Engineering, or related field.
- CompTIA Security+ (preferred).
- Linux or network administration certifications advantageous (e.g., RHCE, LPIC, CCNA).
