**Job title**: DevOps/Middleware Engineer
**Role Summary**: An individual contributor responsible for building, automating, deploying, and supporting middleware and containerized applications. Drives infrastructure and application performance, security, and scalability through code‑based automation, continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD), and cloud‑native technologies.
**Expectations**: Deliver end‑to‑end middleware solutions that meet business performance and security objectives. Own capacity planning, releases, monitoring, and incident response. Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to prioritize features, assess risks, and communicate trade‑offs. Participate in on‑call rotations, knowledge sharing, and documentation upkeep.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Design and maintain infrastructure automation using Ansible, Chef, Puppet, or equivalent.
- Build, test, and release middleware stacks (WebLogic, JBoss, Tomcat, Apache) and containerized services on Docker/Kubernetes.
- Implement CI/CD pipelines in GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or CloudBees, managing artifacts with Artifactory/Maven.
- Provision, configure, and secure cloud resources (AWS EC2, S3, EBS, VPC; Azure VM, Storage, Network).
- Manage DNS, DHCP, load balancers, firewalls, and security components (Okta, LDAP, AD, ES certificates).
- Instrument monitoring and alerting (Datadog, Grafana, Dynatrace, Splunk) and conduct capacity/ performance assessments.
- Troubleshoot and resolve production and non‑production incidents, performing root‑cause analysis.
- Maintain up‑to‑date technical documentation and support knowledge transfer to Release and Operations teams.
**Required Skills**
- Unix/Linux administration and automation scripting (Shell, Perl, Python, PowerShell, JSON, YAML).
- Middleware server expertise (WebLogic, JBoss, Tomcat, Apache).
- Container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes) and image management.
- Cloud platforms: AWS (EC2, S3, EBS, VPC, Route 53) and Azure (VM, Storage, Networking).
- Configuration management tools (Ansible, Chef, Puppet).
- CI/CD tooling (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, CloudBees, Artifactory).
- Networking fundamentals (DNS, DHCP, Load Balancer, HTTP/SOAP/REST APIs).
- Security fundamentals (Okta, SiteMinder, LDAP/AD, RBAC, SSL/TLS certificate lifecycle, MFA).
- Monitoring & logging (Datadog, AppDynamics, Kibana, Splunk, Nagios, Dynatrace, Grafana).
- Agile Scrum/Kanban process familiarity.
**Required Education & Certifications**
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
- Relevant certifications preferred: AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE), Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA), or similar.
