Job Description
Job Title: HSSE Firewall Engineer Role Summary: The engineer configures, monitors, and maintains network security equipment—ACLs, layer 3/4 firewalls, and application‑aware firewalls—to protect enterprise networks against unauthorized access and cyber threats. Expectations: - Maintain confidentiality and obtain a Secret clearance. - Execute firewall policy enforcement across a multi‑vendor environment. - Keep documentation current and support cross‑team troubleshooting. Key Responsibilities - Implement and manage physical and virtual firewalls (Cisco ASA, Palo Alto). - Administer and troubleshoot firewalls in medium to large, complex organizations. - Enforce approved security policies, perform configuration and change control. - Research, verify, and document ports, protocols, and services (PPS) to meet compliance. - Analyze network security requirements and implement perimeter changes. - Coordinate troubleshooting with customers, infrastructure support, and business units. - Develop and maintain security infrastructure documentation. - Troubleshoot a variety of products in a multi‑vendor environment. - Monitor network performance and provide performance tuning as required. - Apply industry best practices for security, disaster recovery, and business continuity. Required Skills - 8+ years networking experience, including routing and switching. - Deep knowledge of ACLs, layer 3/4 firewalls, and application‑aware firewall technology. - Experience with Remedy ticketing, VPN technologies, IDS/IPS, and vulnerability assessment tools. - Proficiency in packet capture and analysis methodologies. - Scripting skills in Python, Java, or Perl. - Familiarity with government information assurance standards (DISA STIGs, NIST 800‑53, IAVA). - Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and change management skills.
