Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust was formed on 1 June 2018 following a merger between South Staffordshire and Shropshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and Staffordshire and Stoke on Trent Partnership NHS Trust.

Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust provides physical and mental health, learning disability and adult social care services across Staffordshire, Stoke-on-Trent and Shropshire. We provide a vast range of community services for adults and children and specialised services such as rheumatology and rehabilitation, which are delivered in venues ranging from health centres, GP practices, community hospitals and people's own homes.

The Trust also provides services on a wider regional or national basis including perinatal, eating disorder and forensic services. We deliver out of area sexual health services and our Inclusions service offers psychological and drug and alcohol services, in the community and in prisons, and has contracts across the country. We also provide genitourinary medicine services.

As an organisation we serve a population of 1.5 million, over a core geography of 2,400 square miles, and employ around 8,500 members of staff.

Job Description
**Job title:** Trainee Applied Psychologist **Role Summary:** Provide psychological assessment, intervention, staff training, and service evaluation within forensic inpatient wards. Work under the supervision of qualified forensic psychologists, contributing to the development of psychological services for adults with complex mental health and risk-related needs. **Expectations:** Current MPFT employee in the Forensic Directorate on an approved, accredited postgraduate training route to become a Counselling or Forensic Psychologist. Demonstrated interest and experience in working with high‑risk populations and trauma‑informed practice. Commitment to improving service users’ quality of life and to professional development within the forensic psychology team. **Key Responsibilities:** - Deliver individual and group psychological assessments and interventions in forensic inpatient settings. - Conduct risk assessments and develop risk management plans. - Facilitate staff training on psychological and trauma‑informed approaches. - Participate in service evaluation and quality improvement initiatives. - Engage hard‑to‑reach service users, including those with violent or sexual offence histories. - Work independently within a supervised framework and contribute to multidisciplinary team meetings. - Maintain accurate clinical records and progress notes. - Engage in peer learning and provide support to the wider psychology team. **Required Skills:** - Proficiency in psychological assessment methods and interpretation. - Competence in evidence‑based therapeutic models (e.g., CBT, trauma‑focused therapies). - Strong risk‑assessment and management skills. - Ability to engage and build rapport with high‑risk individuals. - Excellent communication, documentation, and teamwork abilities. - Capacity to deliver effective staff training and educational sessions. - Familiarity with forensic inpatient protocols and safety procedures. - Commitment to ongoing learning and reflective practice. **Required Education & Certifications:** - Current membership or eligibility for a relevant professional body (e.g., British Psychological Society). - Approved accredited postgraduate training route to Counselling Psychologist or Forensic Psychologist. - Minimum of an MSc (or equivalent) in Psychology or a related discipline. - Current employment within MPFT’s Forensic Directorate.
