**Job Title:** Application Security Specialist **Role Summary:** Leads application security initiatives within a large municipal law‑enforcement agency, ensuring that software development and runtime environments adhere to security policies, standards, and best practices. Provides guidance, threat modeling, and security assessments across application lifecycles while supervising teams and coordinating complex projects. **Expectations:** - Enforce citywide and agency security policies for all applications. - Identify and mitigate security vulnerabilities, design flaws, and exposures. - Deliver secure‑by‑design guidance and support to development, infrastructure, and data teams. - Maintain continuous compliance monitoring, incident detection, and response procedures. - Stay current with industry security standards and emerging threats. **Key Responsibilities:** - Ensure application teams follow security policies, standards, and operating procedures. - Conduct threat modeling during design, architecture, and infrastructure changes. - Perform formal security assessments, including pen‑testing and configuration reviews. - Provide security design assistance for new products and internally developed projects. - Define, manage, and monitor data confidentiality, integrity, and availability controls. - Document, troubleshoot, and support application security infrastructure to optimize performance. - Review design/accreditation documentation for appropriate security controls. - Coordinate and supervise cross‑functional teams throughout the application lifecycle. - Monitor industry developments and integrate best practices into the security program. **Required Skills:** - Proven experience in software development and application security. - Expertise in threat modeling, penetration testing, and security assessments. - Strong leadership and team‑supervision abilities for large‑scale projects. - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for cross‑department collaboration. - Ability to analyze, document, and remediate security findings. - Knowledge of security standards (e.g., NIST, OWASP) and compliance frameworks. **Required Education & Certifications:** - Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution (or equivalent experience). - Minimum of 4 years of relevant full‑time experience in application security or related IT security roles. - Preferred: certifications such as CISSP, CSSLP, CEH, or equivalent (not mandatory).
