Job Description
Job title: R&D Materials Engineer (Physicochemical Characterization Specialist) Role Summary: Lead the physicochemical analysis and optimization of materials for medical device R&D. Translate scientific insights into product‑ready data, ensuring material compliance with performance specifications. Expactations: Deliver accurate, reproducible characterization data; guide material selection; support innovation through rigorous testing and DOE; produce clear technical documentation in English and French; mentor technicians and coordinate cross‑functional teams. Key Responsibilities: - Review scientific literature and technical documentation to inform R&D strategy. - Evaluate polymers, metals, conductive inks, and other materials using DSC, FTIR, DMA, rheometry, mechanical testing, and DOE. - Compare material properties against specifications; validate data integrity. - Develop and supervise experimental protocols; ensure compliance and project objectives. - Prepare detailed technical reports and bilingual documentation. - Act as primary scientific liaison for technicians, R&D, purchasing, production, quality, and external partners. - Identify and mitigate risks; propose actionable recommendations for product development. Required Skills: - Proficiency in IR, DSC, DMA, rheology, mechanical testing, and DOE. - Strong scientific data analysis and interpretation. - Excellent written and verbal communication in English and French. - Ability to lead and mentor technical staff. - Strong problem‑solving, collaboration, and independent work capability. - Meticulous attention to detail and data integrity. Required Education & Certifications: - Master’s degree (or higher) in Chemistry, Materials Science, or related field; PhD is highly desirable. - Minimum 3 years’ experience in material characterization and product development.
