**Job Title**
Term Educational Assistant – 0.25 FTE (2 hrs/day, 8:30 am – 10:30 am)
**Role Summary**
Provide direct support to a classroom teacher and students with special needs within a designated classroom. Work as part of the school team to enhance academic achievement and address physical, emotional, and hygienic needs of students with developmental, physical, or behavioral challenges during a term assignment.
**Expectations**
- Commit to the specified term dates and 2‑hour daily schedule.
- Deliver consistent, professional support in alignment with instructional plans.
- Maintain confidentiality, comply with school policies, and uphold safety standards.
- Participate fully in team meetings and follow direction from the principal and teacher.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Assist students who are developmentally delayed, physically disabled, deaf, blind, or experiencing behavior/social/medical problems.
- Support special‑education classroom activities (social adjustment, communication, learning disabilities).
- Facilitate academic tasks, monitor progress, and collect data as required.
- Address students’ physical, emotional, and hygienic needs (e.g., toileting, feeding).
- Provide assistive communication (e.g., signing, PECS) and behavioral interventions as directed.
- Maintain an organized, safe classroom environment.
- Collaborate with teachers, support staff, and families to implement individualized education plans.
- Complete any additional duties assigned by the school.
**Required Skills**
- Excellent oral and written communication.
- Ability to establish rapport and positive relationships with children.
- Initiative, flexibility, and teamwork orientation.
- Basic knowledge of PICS, PECS, ABA, or similar frameworks (considered an asset).
- Understanding of special feeding techniques and basic first aid (CPR, AHA/CPR, occupational health).
- Ability to work safely with students who have diverse needs.
- Strong organizational and time‑management skills.
**Required Education & Certifications**
- Secondary school diploma.
- Two‑year community college diploma in a child‑related field (e.g., DSW, CYW, SSW) **or** a university degree in a child‑related discipline.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working with children with physical, intellectual, and/or behavioral disabilities.
*Additional Credentials (considered an asset):*
- Behavior Science Certificate
- Special feeding techniques certification
- CPR/First Aid, CPI (NCI), Diabetic Monitoring license
**Education & Certification Summary**
Secondary diploma + 2‑year child‑related college diploma (or university degree) + 2 years relevant experience.
Optional: Behavior science, feeding, or first‑aid credentials.
