**Job title:** Term Educational Assistant (FTE)
**Role Summary:**
Support classroom instruction and student development under the guidance of the principal and classroom teacher. Provide individualized assistance to students with physical, intellectual, behavioral, or learning challenges, ensuring compliance with educational and health protocols.
**Expectations:**
- Work the assigned term schedule (e.g., 8:30 am – 4:00 pm).
- Demonstrate initiative, empathy, and professional communication with students, staff, and parents.
- Uphold confidentiality, safety, and school policies, including health and first‑aid procedures.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Assist in classroom instruction and individualized learning plans for students with developmental delays, disabilities, or behavioral needs.
- Fulfill physical, emotional, and hygienic support tasks (e.g., toileting, feeding, mobility assistance).
- Implement behavior support strategies (ABA, PECS, PICS, signing, Braille) as directed.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to program planning and student progress monitoring.
- Maintain accurate records of student interactions, behavior data, and incident reports.
- Perform general duties such as classroom setup, materials preparation, and safety inspections.
**Required Skills:**
- Strong verbal and written communication in English.
- Ability to establish rapport and maintain positive relationships with children and colleagues.
- Adaptability, problem‑solving, and initiative in a classroom environment.
- Basic knowledge of behavior support techniques and inclusive education practices.
**Required Education & Certifications:**
- Secondary school diploma.
- Minimum 2‑year post‑secondary diploma in a child‑focused field (e.g., DSW, CYW, SSW) or equivalent university degree.
- Two years of relevant experience with children exhibiting physical, intellectual, or behavioral challenges.
**Preferred/Asset Qualifications (non‑mandatory):**
- Knowledge of PICS, PECS, ABA, signing, Braille;
- Behaviour Science certificate;
- Special feeding techniques;
- CPR/First Aid, CPI (NCI), diabetic monitoring.
**Additional Requirements:**
- Valid police record check (for non‑OCSB employees).
- Ability to work within the term assignment dates and hours.
