**Job title**
Applied AI Engineer
**Role Summary**
Design, build, and deploy production‑grade generative AI solutions that integrate government data into user‑facing products. Lead implementation of LLMs, prompt engineering, retrieval‑augmented generation (RAG) and multi‑agent workflows, ensuring performance, explainability, and observability. Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to translate stakeholder requirements into scalable AI services.
**Expectations**
- Work with pre‑trained LLMs (e.g., GPT‑4) and orchestration frameworks (LangChain, LlamaIndex).
- Develop low‑latency, high‑accuracy AI pipelines using Databricks, Azure services, and vector databases.
- Establish monitoring, evaluation, and continuous improvement processes for AI systems.
- Communicate complex technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders and provide documentation, training, and support.
**Key Responsibilities**
1. Architect and implement scalable AI applications, APIs, and workflows.
2. Engineer prompt strategies and memory systems for multi‑step reasoning.
3. Integrate LLM features into existing platforms via secure APIs; ensure seamless UX.
4. Design and maintain evaluation and observability pipelines (LLMOps).
5. Deploy retrieval systems (RAG, Azure AI Search, Chroma) for context‑aware generation.
6. Prototype, test, and benchmark generative models, optimizing performance and cost.
7. Collaborate with product, engineering, and data teams to align AI features with business goals.
8. Present findings, evangelize AI best practices, and document architectural decisions.
9. Participate in architecture reviews, sprint planning, and technical discussions.
**Required Skills**
- Proficient in Python; experience building production APIs.
- Hands‑on knowledge of LLM frameworks (LangChain, LlamaIndex, etc.).
- Familiarity with LLM evaluation metrics and observability techniques.
- Experience with vector databases, RAG, and retrieval pipelines.
- Ability to implement low‑latency, high‑accuracy AI services on cloud platforms (Databricks, Azure).
- Strong problem‑solving, communication, and teamwork abilities.
- Ability to explain AI concepts to non‑technical audiences.
**Required Education & Certifications**
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
- (Optional) Advanced degree (MS/PhD) or 5+ years of professional engineering experience, with at least 2 years in AI/ML systems.
