Job Description
**Job Title** Research Commercialization Officer **Role Summary** Responsible for managing the university’s intellectual property (IP) portfolio, supporting faculty and researchers through the commercialization journey, and administering contracts, financial terms and compliance. Works closely with the Innovation & Commercialization team, LINC staff and external partners to translate research outputs into societal and economic impact. **Expectations** • Two‑year fixed‑term contract • On‑site presence three days per week; occasional evening availability required • Deliverables include IP portfolio oversight, agreement administration, and commercial potential assessment **Key Responsibilities** - Oversee end‑to‑end IP project management (invention disclosures, assessments, patent filings, case activity). - Manage file organization, patent administration, contract tracking, deadline monitoring, and financial documentation. - Develop, maintain and standardise SOPs, processes, and tracking tools for efficient IP operations. - Lead the acquisition, implementation and administration of an IP management software system; ensure accurate data entry, reporting and workflow optimisation. - Track and coordinate payments related to IP protection, licensing and commercialization. - Evaluate commercial potential of invention disclosures: conduct prior‑art searches, technology assessments, preliminary market research; identify potential applications or partners in collaboration with the Innovation & Commercialization Manager. - Document assessment outcomes and produce preliminary recommendations for each technology. - Draft, review and administer commercialization‑related agreements (NDAs, MTAs, option agreements, license agreements, research contracts). - Monitor compliance with agreements, including reporting, milestones and financial obligations. - Manage commercialization budgets, royalty reporting and revenue processing in line with university policies and agreements. - Serve as the primary point of contact for faculty, graduate students and post‑doctoral scholars seeking IP and commercialization guidance. - Coordinate introductory meetings to explain IP policies, disclosure procedures and protection options. - Assist the Innovation & Commercialization Manager in delivering IP workshops and training sessions campus‑wide. **Required Skills** - Graduate degree in a relevant scientific, engineering or business discipline (or equivalent combination of education and experience). - Proven experience in technology transfer, intellectual property management or research commercialization. - Deep understanding of IP processes, patent administration and commercialization pathways. - Strong project management, prioritisation and organisational skills in fast‑paced environments. - Proficiency in contract review and financial tracking for IP agreements. - Experience implementing new software tools; data‑management system experience is an asset. - Advanced computer skills: word processing, spreadsheets, databases, web applications, social media, internet research. - Excellent verbal, written and interpretative communication skills. - Demonstrated commitment to inclusivity and respect within the workplace. **Required Education & Certifications** - Graduate (Master’s or Ph.D.) in a relevant scientific, engineering or business field. - Professional certifications in IP, patent law, or technology transfer are a plus.
