Job Description
**Job Title:** Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Technician (Transit Fleet Maintenance) **Role Summary:** Diagnose, repair, and overhaul transit vehicles, ensuring performance, safety, and reliability across light repair shops and heavy overhaul facilities. **Expectations:** - 3rd‑year Truck & Transport Apprentices or 4th‑year Heavy Equipment Apprentices who have completed all educational requirements. - Journeypersons must have 2 years operational/vehicle maintenance experience. **Key Responsibilities:** - Inspect, perform preventive maintenance, minor and heavy‑duty repairs, and overhauls on engines, electrical systems, powertrain, brakes, steering, suspension, transmissions, and fueling components. - Conduct basic and advanced diagnostics using scanning tools and software. - Lubricate vehicles per schedule. - Complete Commercial Vehicle Inspection Program (CVIP) inspections and maintain credentials. - Enter detailed data (job times, work performed, maintenance history) into a computerized fleet management system. - Prepare and submit major repair authorizations, provincial certifications, preventative maintenance inspection sheets, and other required documentation. - Follow manufacturer’s manuals, shop, and engineering instructions. - Adhere to Safe Work Practices, SOPs, OH&S, and environmental standards. **Required Skills:** - Proficiency with vehicle diagnostic computer programs. - Accurate data entry and computer use. - Strong problem‑solving, interpersonal, and teamwork abilities. - Adaptability to changing work environments and emerging technologies. - Knowledge of occupational hazards and OH&S safety precautions. - Physical capability to lift 75 lb and perform required manual tasks. **Required Education & Certifications:** - Valid Alberta Industry and Trade Apprenticeship (3rd‑year Truck & Transport or 4th‑year Heavy Equipment). - Valid Class 3 Alberta Operator’s Licence with Air‑Brake endorsement (Class 5 considered). - City Driver’s permit. - Provincial Highway Inspection Certificate (CVIP) upon achieving journeyperson status. - Journeypersons: 2 years of relevant maintenance experience. - Apprentices: Ability to obtain Certified Alberta Journeyperson in the trade within the prescribed timeline. *Asset:* Experience with AssetWorks M5.
