Job Description
**Job Title** Staff Data & Control Systems Engineer **Role Summary** Design, develop, and supervise the full lifecycle of data acquisition and control systems for rocket test infrastructure. Lead projects from concept through commissioning, ensuring reliable operation of electrical, hydraulic, and motion control systems across stand‑level and large‑scale test environments. Serve as technical mentor to test department teams, resolving complex constraints and optimizing system architecture. **Expactations** - Minimum 7 years of experience in designing, activating, and troubleshooting electrical/automated systems. - Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related discipline. - Proven track record delivering complex, innovative projects on time and within budget. - Ability to specify, select, and integrate a wide range of sensors and actuators (pressure transducers, RTDs, strain gauges, thermocouples, solenoids, accelerometers, microphones). - Demonstrated risk identification and mitigation in complex systems. **Key Responsibilities** 1. Lead full design cycle for temporary and permanent data/control systems for test stands handling millions of pounds of force. 2. Identify and engage stakeholders across partner teams, articulating critical questions and resolving control constraints. 3. Specify and integrate electrical/hydraulic motion control, AC/DC power distribution, instrumentation packages, and safety interlock systems. 4. Mentor and advise test department personnel on electrical engineering fundamentals and system architecture. 5. Conduct feasibility studies, risk assessments, and performance analyses for proposed designs. 6. Collaborate with mission‑critical system specialists to commission and maintain low‑voltage power systems. 7. Document architecture, design specifications, and integration test plans. 8. Adapt to changing requirements, managing multiple concurrent projects. **Required Skills** - Deep understanding of electrical engineering fundamentals and application. - Experience with sensor/actuator integration (pressure, temperature, strain, acoustic, acceleration). - Knowledge of motion control cabinets, safety‑critical interlock and test abort logic. - Proficiency in schematic capture and electrical layout tools (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical preferred). - Scripting (Python, MATLAB) for analysis and automation tool development. - Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (Ethernet, EtherCAT, CAN, Modbus). - Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and project management capabilities. **Required Education & Certifications** - Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field. - No mandatory certifications, but familiarity with industrial control standards is advantageous.
