Job Description
Job Title: Accounting Clerk – Cash Receipting Role Summary: Process, approve, and reconcile all incoming cash batches, maintain general ledger entries in Unit4 and Tempest, support customer service, accounts receivable, and tax clerks, and provide month‑end/year‑end and audit assistance. Expectations: Accurate, timely cash processing; adherence to accounting standards and tax regulations; clear communication with customers and internal teams; readiness to cover cross‑departmental duties and overtime as needed. Key Responsibilities - Review and approve daily cash batches. - Manage and replenish cash floats; balance daily cash transactions. - Enter payment information into Unit4 and Tempest; reconcile GL accounts. - Reconcile, balance, and support month‑end and year‑end financial statements. - Support the Customer Service team: accept payments, prepare deposits, respond to inquiries in person and by phone. - Assist Accounts Receivable with invoice processing and collections. - Provide tax clerks with support on tax certificates, notice generation, and mail-outs. - Maintain accurate filing and records management. - Distribute internal mail and other administrative tasks. - Support audit activities and cross‑train for departmental coverage. - Escalate unusual, sensitive, or emergency situations to appropriate staff. Required Skills - Strong computer skills, especially Microsoft Office 365. - Prior experience with full‑cycle accounting and cash receipting/data entry. - Excellent verbal and written communication. - High attention to detail, strong organizational abilities. - Critical thinking, problem‑solving, and customer service aptitude. - Team oriented, flexible, and able to learn new software quickly. - Professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment. Required Education & Certifications - Post‑secondary diploma or degree in Business, Accounting, or Finance (or equivalent education/experience). - Minimum of 2 years of full‑cycle accounting experience. - Knowledge of accepted accounting principles, tax laws, and reporting requirements. - Experience working in a municipal setting considered an asset.
