Job Description
Job Title: Thermal Engineer Role Summary: Design, analyze, and test thermal performance of advanced space hardware. Provide thermal inputs to multidisciplinary teams, develop analytical models and documentation, and execute qualification test campaigns to validate thermal concepts and designs. Expectations: Deliver high‑quality thermal design guidance, comprehensive reports, and test data that support subsystem and system integration in a space‑grade environment. Key Responsibilities: - Provide thermal design inputs to mechanical and electrical engineering teams. - Build and validate thermal models using Thermal Desktop (SINDA) and/or Ansys tools (ICEPAK, Fluent, Mechanical). - Develop detailed thermal analysis reports and engineering documentation. - Design, develop, and execute thermal test and qualification plans. - Install thermocouples, heaters, configure DAQ systems, and perform hands‑on thermal testing. - Correlate test results with analytical models and refine designs accordingly. - Contribute to trade studies for electronic enclosures and system architecture. - Conduct PCB‑level and module‑level preliminary thermal analyses. - Collaborate with cross‑functional teams throughout the hardware development lifecycle. - Support early‑stage R&D and development‑phase test operations. Required Skills: - Proficiency in Thermal Desktop (SINDA) and/or Ansys thermal analysis tools. - Experience with thermal test planning, thermocouple/heater installation, DAQ and power supply operation. - Ability to interpret and correlate test data with analytical models. - Strong technical writing and formal engineering report production. - Detail‑oriented, methodical approach to design and testing. - Knowledge of CAD (NX or SolidWorks) is a plus. Required Education & Certifications: - Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field. - U.S. citizenship required (background check). Preferred Qualifications (not mandatory): - Aerospace, avionics, or high‑reliability electronics experience. - Satellite, space‑system, or RF hardware experience. - Experience with production‑level thermal models.
