Job Description
**Job Title:** Cyber Security Analyst (Cyber Defense Analyst) **Role Summary:** Provide expert-level monitoring, analysis, and response to cybersecurity threats for Federal government environments. Leverage intrusion detection systems, firewalls, and network logs to detect, mitigate, and remediate incidents while ensuring compliance with federal policies and standards. **Expactations:** - Maintain a proactive security posture across mission‑critical systems. - Deliver timely, accurate incident analysis and response. - Communicate technical findings clearly to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders. - Uphold federal cybersecurity policies, standards, and public‑trust requirements. **Key Responsibilities:** - Monitor alerts, logs, and network traffic from IDS, firewalls, and other defense tools. - Investigate security events to determine root cause, scope, and impact. - Execute incident response actions: containment, eradication, and recovery. - Collaborate with federal stakeholders (e.g., UMA, USDA) during incident handling. - Document incidents, analyses, and response steps per federal guidelines. - Develop and refine incident response playbooks and standard operating procedures. - Provide risk communication and mitigation recommendations to leadership. **Required Skills:** - Strong analytical ability with experience interpreting security event data. - Proficiency with cyber defense tools (IDS/IPS, firewalls, SIEM, log analysis). - Knowledge of incident preparation, detection, analysis, and response processes. - Excellent written and verbal communication for diverse audiences. - Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance; U.S. citizenship required. **Required Education & Certifications:** - Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or related field (accredited institution). - Desired certifications: CISSP, Certified Cyber Threat Hunting Professional (CCTHP), or comparable incident response credential. - Preferred: Master’s degree or higher in Cybersecurity or related discipline; experience in Federal enterprise security operations.
