Job Description
Job title: GIS/Python Engineer Intern Role Summary: Develop, implement, and optimize geospatial software solutions for urban climate modeling. Responsible for Python programming, GIS data manipulation, satellite data processing, and database management, supporting the team’s data‑centric projects. Expectations: - Strong command of Python and object‑oriented programming concepts. - Proven experience with GIS platforms such as ESRI ArcGIS and ArcPy, or open‑source alternatives like PyQGIS. - Competence in relational database design and maintenance. - Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative project environment. - Scientific rigor and methodical data handling. - Effective written and verbal communication with researchers, engineers, and partners. - Quick learning and adaptation to new tools and concepts. Key Responsibilities: - Design and code Python modules for GIS and satellite data workflows. - Create, populate, and maintain GIS databases. - Process and integrate satellite imagery into climate models. - Debug, optimize, and document code to ensure reproducibility. - Collaborate with environmental scientists to translate research questions into technical solutions. - Prepare concise progress reports and technical documentation. Required Skills: - Python (preferably 3.x), OOP principles. - GIS software (ArcGIS/ArcPy, PyQGIS, or similar). - Relational database skills (SQL, database design). - Basic satellite image analysis and processing. - Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and critical thinking abilities. - Excellent written and oral communication. Required Education & Certifications: - Current enrolment in a bachelor’s or master’s program in Environmental Science, Geography, Geoinformatics, Computer Science, or related field. - Knowledge of GIS and satellite data processing; training or certifications in ESRI ArcGIS or equivalent is advantageous, but not mandatory.
