Job Description

**Job Title:** Software Engineer – Backend (AdTech) **Role Summary:** Backend engineer responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining KAYAK’s advertising platform. Works on APIs, data pipelines, ad‑targeting algorithms, and reporting tools, collaborating across engineering, product, data science, and design teams. **Expectations:** - Minimum 4 years of professional Java development experience. - Ability to work independently and within cross‑functional teams. - On‑site presence in Cambridge, MA ≥ 3 days per week. - Strong communication skills for interaction with technical and non‑technical stakeholders. **Key Responsibilities:** - Design, implement, and support scalable AdTech services (ad targeting, content management). - Develop and optimize integrations with data stores (MySQL, Memcache, Aerospike, Trino, Redis, etc.). - Create and refine algorithms to improve ad targeting effectiveness. - Write comprehensive unit, integration, API, and end‑to‑end tests. - Conduct code reviews and share knowledge with team members. - Diagnose and resolve performance and scalability challenges. **Required Skills:** - Proficient Java programming (4+ years). - Strong grasp of data structures, algorithms, and software design principles. - Experience with relational databases (MySQL or Oracle). - Familiarity with NoSQL or caching technologies (Aerospike, Redis, Memcache) – plus. - Experience with query engines or analytics platforms (Trino) – plus. - Ability to collaborate effectively across disciplines and communicate ideas clearly. **Required Education & Certifications:** - Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience). - No specific certifications required.
