**Job Title:** SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA)
**Role Summary:**
Manage and support Microsoft SQL Server databases both on‑premises and in Azure SQL PaaS, ensuring performance, availability, security, and automation. Collaborate with development and infrastructure teams to enable reliable application deployments and adhere to ITIL service management practices.
**Expectations:**
- 7+ years of Microsoft SQL Server administration experience.
- 5+ years of hands‑on work with Azure SQL PaaS.
- Proven ability to automate DBA tasks and resolve complex performance, replication, and security issues.
- Strong scripting skills (PowerShell) and familiarity with third‑party DBA tools.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Administer, monitor, and troubleshoot on‑prem and Azure SQL Server instances.
- Automate routine DBA operations using PowerShell and scripting frameworks.
- Perform backup, restore, high‑availability (log shipping, replication) and disaster‑recovery procedures.
- Optimize database performance through Extended Events, execution‑plan analysis, and indexing strategies.
- Implement and maintain security controls, including Entra ID authentication and BYOK encryption.
- Support application deployments, resolve data‑related incidents, and follow ITIL service‑management processes.
- Document configurations, procedures, and operational guidelines.
**Required Skills:**
- Microsoft SQL Server administration (7 + years)
- Azure SQL PaaS experience (5 + years)
- PowerShell scripting and automation expertise
- Performance tuning, query optimization, and execution‑plan analysis
- Management of stored procedures, triggers, views, functions, indexes, and constraints
- Troubleshooting replication, log shipping, backup/restore, blocking, deadlocks, and security/connectivity issues
- Knowledge of Azure networking, Entra ID (Azure AD) authentication, and BYOK
- Familiarity with DBA tools: Toad, pgAdmin, DBeaver, dbForge, Visual Studio
- PostgreSQL exposure (optional)
**Required Education & Certifications:**
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Relevant certifications preferred (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate, Microsoft Certified: SQL Server Database Administrator)
