Job Description
**Job Title:** Internship – Software Engineering – Spring 2026 **Role Summary:** Support the development, simulation, and testing of guidance, navigation, and control (GNC) algorithms for launch vehicles and spacecraft. Contribute to advancing Firefly’s simulation capabilities, verification/validation processes, and automation tools for mission design and post‑flight analysis. **Expectations:** - Apply academic knowledge in aerospace or software engineering to real‑world GNC problems. - Deliver high‑quality code and documentation in a collaborative, version‑controlled environment. - Demonstrate eligibility for U.S. export controls (ITAR). - Communicate progress and results effectively to senior engineers. **Key Responsibilities:** - Assist in designing, simulating, and testing GNC algorithms. - Enhance Firefly’s simulation tools and trajectory‑design software. - Improve reliability and robustness of GNC verification and validation testing. - Develop and refine automation scripts for mission design and post‑flight processing. - Participate in code reviews, debugging, and performance optimization. **Required Skills:** - Experience with software simulations or algorithms for atmospheric/orbital flight. - Understanding of dynamics, orbital mechanics, control systems, and estimation theory. - Proficiency in C/C++ and/or Python. - Familiarity with version‑control systems (e.g., Git). - Working knowledge of Linux operating systems. - Eligibility for ITAR compliance (U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, protected individual, or able to obtain required authorizations). **Required Education & Certifications:** - Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in Aerospace Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related discipline from an accredited four‑year university/college. - No specific certifications required; compliance with U.S. export regulations is mandatory.
