Job Description
**Job Title:** SRP Intern – Critical Infrastructure Cybersecurity (Energy Systems) **Role Summary:** A 10–12 week summer internship focused on designing, implementing, and testing cybersecurity tools for U.S. energy infrastructure. Interns work with a multidisciplinary team to evaluate the resilience of power grid control systems and associated hardware, using simulation, hardware‑in‑the‑loop platforms, and real infrastructure testbeds. **Expectations:** - Current enrollment in a B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. program in computer science, electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a related technical discipline. - Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills. - Ability to work independently and collaboratively. - Effective written and verbal communication. - Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret level DoD security clearance. - U.S. citizenship required. **Key Responsibilities:** - Design and develop software tools for assessing cyber resilience of energy control systems. - Rehost or reverse‑engineer embedded firmware for security analysis. - Create protocol parsers for industrial control system (ICS) and proprietary network protocols. - Build realistic network simulation environments and digital twins for energy systems. - Perform network protocol analysis using Wireshark, Tcpdump, or Zeek. - Participate in hardware‑in‑the‑loop testing and field demonstrations with laboratory staff. **Required Skills:** - Programming: C/C++, Python, or Go. - Knowledge of industrial control protocols: Modbus, IEC 61850, DNP3, OPC, BACnet. - Network security fundamentals: basic cryptographic concepts, intrusion detection, penetration testing, or red‑team operations. - Experience with network simulation or hardware‑in‑the‑loop tools. - Strong analytical, written, and oral communication abilities. **Required Education & Certifications:** - Enrolled in a B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. program in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field. - U.S. citizenship; eligibility to obtain a Secret DoD security clearance. - No specific certifications required; familiarity with cybersecurity tools and protocols is advantageous.
