Job Description
**Job Title:** Head of Technology **Role Summary:** Senior technology leader responsible for defining, communicating, and executing the UK Hydrographic Office’s technology vision and strategy. Leads a technology estate of ~250 staff, oversees legacy modernization, drives cloud adoption, ensures cyber resilience, and delivers digital solutions that support business objectives and operational effectiveness. **Expectations:** - Deliver an enterprise‑wide technology strategy aligned with business goals. - Modernise legacy systems, enable large‑scale cloud implementation, and promote a secure, resilient architecture. - Foster high‑performance, customer‑centric teams through clear guidance and role modelling. - Engage with senior leadership to drive transformational change and maintain measurable value delivery. **Key Responsibilities:** 1. Define and execute technology strategy and vision in partnership with the Chief Digital and Technology Officer. 2. Lead architecture design, cloud migration, and integration of emerging technologies. 3. Evaluate and modernise legacy systems, reducing technical debt. 4. Ensure cyber security compliance, vulnerability management, and regulatory adherence. 5. Manage technology demand, capacity planning, and partnership with external suppliers. 6. Provide leadership, coaching, and support to managers and specialists, especially during complex change or incident events. 7. Represent the technology division within senior leadership teams, influencing strategic direction. 8. Maintain DV and SC security clearances and uphold organisational security standards. **Required Skills:** - Enterprise architecture & cloud strategy (AWS, Azure, GCP). - Legacy system assessment and modernization. - Cyber security best practices, vulnerability management, and compliance. - Digital transformation & data‑driven decision making. - Team leadership, stakeholder management, and cross‑functional collaboration. - Strategic planning, risk management, and change management. **Required Education & Certifications:** - Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, IT, or related field. - Advanced leadership programme (e.g., INSEAD, Harvard, or equivalent). - Professional certifications such as TOGAF, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Microsoft Azure Solutions Architect, PMP, or CISSP. - DV clearance and SC clearance at appointment.
