**Job Title:** Direct Access Systems Engineer
**Role Summary:**
Lead the design, development, and 24/7 operational sustainment of Direct Access Ground System (DAGS) software, ensuring zero‑downtime delivery of satellite imagery to U.S. Department of Defense and international customers. Translate high‑level business requirements into technical microservice solutions, support system lifecycle from conception to deployment, and act as subject‑matter expert for DAGS.
**Expectations:**
- Achieve reliable, on‑time system availability for all DAGS deployments.
- Deliver architecture and code that meet rigorous security, export‑control, and performance standards.
- Foster collaboration with cross‑functional teams, external partners, and stakeholders to meet program objectives.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Design, implement, and maintain DAGS headquarters software and associated microservices.
- Translate business requirements into technical specifications, documentation, and test plans.
- Lead internal software development teams through prioritization, design reviews, and code quality assurance.
- Diagnose operational incidents, perform root‑cause analysis, and remediate issues with minimal downtime.
- Develop and maintain training, integration, and testing documentation.
- Serve as the DAGS domain subject‑matter expert, advising on architecture, security, and compliance.
- Engage with system engineers, stakeholders, and external partners to deliver solutions on schedule and within budget.
**Required Skills:**
- 2–5 years of satellite ground systems or general systems engineering experience.
- Deep understanding of ground‑system components, operational concepts, and satellite communication protocols.
- Proficiency in microservice architecture, REST/GRPC, Docker, and container orchestration.
- Experience with Windows, Linux, and scripting (Python/PowerShell/Bash).
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and root‑cause investigation abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, including customer interaction and technical documentation.
- Capability to produce detailed test plans, integration cases, and training materials.
**Required Education & Certifications:**
- Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field **or** equivalent experience (4‑year experience can substitute for the degree).
- U.S. citizenship required; U.S. government security clearance may be required (current or soon‑to‑be obtainable).
- Relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Systems Engineering Professional, ITAR compliance) are a plus.
