Automation & Robotics Engineer
Role Summary
Design, implement, and optimize robotic and automation solutions for U.S. manufacturers, driving productivity gains and supporting Formic’s mission of re‑industrializing domestic supply chains. Works across hardware, software, and analytics to deliver end‑to‑end automation services, from feasibility studies through deployment and maintenance.

Key Responsibilities
- Assess manufacturing operations to determine automation opportunities and create detailed engineering designs.
- Design mechanical, electrical, and control systems for robotics and automated equipment; specify components and interfaces.
- Develop or integrate software (PLC, SCADA, custom apps) to control robotics, capture data, and interface with enterprise systems.
- Conduct simulations, proof‑of‑concept tests, and field pilots; iterate designs based on performance and safety feedback.
- Deploy, calibrate, and commission solutions at customer sites; provide technical support and troubleshooting during ramp‑up.
- Collaborate with data analytics, operations, and maintenance teams to ensure seamless uptime and continuous improvement.
- Prepare documentation, training materials, and demonstrations for clients and internal stakeholders.
Required Skills
- Deep knowledge of industrial robotics (payload, kinematics, safety) and automation hardware (drive systems, sensors).
- Proficiency in control programming (PLC, structured text, ladder logic) and integration frameworks (OPC UA, MQTT).
- Experience with motion control, computer vision or machine learning **optional** for advanced automation.
- Strong mechanical and electrical design capabilities; familiar with CAD tools (SolidWorks, CATIA) and BOM management.
- Ability to analyze manufacturing data, develop metrics, and report ROI on automation projects.
- Excellent problem‑solving, communication, and user‑centric design skills.
Required Education & Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or Robotics Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
- Professional certifications (e.g., Certified Automation Professional, PLC/Robotics programming) are a plus.
