Job title: Junior Data Engineer Intern
Role Summary: Assist the Data & AI team in designing, developing, and deploying data solutions for internal engineering projects (Civil, Energy, Transport, Networks). Support end‑to‑end data lifecycle: needs gathering, data engineering, model deployment, and client delivery.
Expectations: Deliver clear, actionable outputs in a fast‑paced environment; communicate effectively with cross‑functional teams; maintain data quality and governance; adopt new tools and practices swiftly; adhere to project timelines and documentation standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Translate business requirements into data architecture and pipeline specifications.
- Design and maintain relational and NoSQL databases.
- Build and automate ETL pipelines using tools such as Python, Spark, or Airflow.
- Clean, transform, and enrich large datasets, ensuring compliance with GDPR and internal data governance.
- Deploy machine learning models and AI workflows to production environments (Azure, AWS, GCP).
- Create dashboards and visualizations with Power BI or Tableau.
- Monitor data pipelines, troubleshoot performance issues, and optimize throughput.
- Conduct technical benchmark studies and cost‑efficiency analyses.
- Perform continuous technological watch on emerging data and AI frameworks.
- Collaborate on knowledge transfer workshops and training sessions for business users.
Required Skills:
- Strong programming in Python (pandas, NumPy, scikit‑learn, PySpark).
- Experience with SQL and NoSQL database design (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Cassandra).
- Familiarity with big data ecosystems (Spark, Hadoop, Kafka).
- Knowledge of ETL/ELT pipelines and workflow orchestration.
- Exposure to cloud platforms (Azure Data Factory, AWS Glue, GCP BigQuery).
- Ability to build and deploy ML models (scikit‑learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch).
- Proficiency in data visualization (Power BI, Tableau).
- Understanding of data governance, security, and GDPR principles.
- Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
- Capacity for self‑direction, initiative, and collaborative teamwork.
Required Education & Certifications:
- Current university student or recent graduate in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Data Science, or related discipline.
- Relevant certifications are a plus: Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate, AWS Certified Data Analytics – Specialty, Google Cloud Professional Data Engineer, or Power BI certification.
