**Role Summary**
Research‑driven AI engineer responsible for advancing large‑language‑model and agent‑system capabilities. Works on cognition, memory, reasoning, and orchestration to deliver scalable, cost‑efficient, production‑ready simulation platforms. Drives hypothesis‑based experiments, validates against real data, and defines architectural directions.
**Expectations**
- Lead independent, hypothesis‑driven research projects.
- Translate research insights into robust, deployable software solutions.
- Balance rapid experimentation with reliable, scalable system design.
- Operate effectively in ambiguous environments, clarifying questions as they emerge.
**Key Responsibilities**
1. Formulate research questions on human/agent behavior.
2. Design and execute experiments on synthetic populations.
3. Validate model outputs against real‑world data.
4. Decide on architectures and methods, not just implement them.
5. Optimize model performance and cost for production deployments.
6. Collaborate across backend, data, and product teams to integrate research findings.
**Required Skills**
- PhD, MSc, or equivalent research experience in AI/ML, CS, cognitive science, physics, mathematics, or related field.
- Proven ability to conduct independent, hypothesis‑driven research.
- Strong experimental design, statistical validation, quantitative evaluation.
- Expertise in Python and backend frameworks (FastAPI, Flask, Django).
- Hands‑on experience with LLMs, NLP, simulation, or related AI models.
- Comfortable with ambiguity and iterative research cycles.
**Bonus Skills**
- Fine‑tuning workflows, model optimisation, experiment tracking.
- Multi‑agent systems, simulations, agent‑based modelling.
- Building workflows/agents on existing models.
- Relational databases, vector search/embedding systems.
- Cloud infrastructure, containerisation, ML system deployment.
- Experience in fast‑moving, evolving product environments.
**Required Education & Certifications**
- PhD or MSc (or substantial research experience) in AI, ML, CS, cognitive science, physics, mathematics, or related discipline.
