Partner directly with founders on technical strategy, scaling decisions, and stack evolution while mentoring junior talent. A balance of independent coding (≈80 %) and strategic team development (≈20 %) drives organisational growth toward a future Head of Engineering role. **Expectations** - Mid‑career professional with substantial experience in enterprise software development. - Proven ability to manage or mentor engineers (formal or informal). - Comfortable working in ambiguous, early‑stage contexts while delivering production‑grade solutions. - Strong communication skills to translate business requirements into technical architecture. **Key Responsibilities** 1. Own and evolve scalable, real‑time data pipelines processing customs declarations and related trade data. 2. Design and deploy machine‑learning models for risk detection and generative AI functionality. 3. Make architecture and tooling decisions jointly with co‑founders to support scaling and technology evolution. 4. Build secure, production‑ready APIs (e.g., FastAPI) and engineer customer integrations for enterprise clients. 5. Lead technical aspects of enterprise sales cycles and facilitate customer onboarding. 6. Perform deep data analysis to inform compliance algorithms and system optimisations. 7. Manage cloud infrastructure (AWS, optional GCP) and establish CI/CD pipelines, Dockerisation, and best‑practice governance. 8. Mentor junior engineers, foster a high‑performance culture, and contribute to recruitment and hiring processes. **Required Skills** - Deep expertise in production data engineering: real‑time analytics pipelines, data ingestion, and batch processing at scale. - Advanced proficiency in Python, FastAPI, Docker, and CI/CD tooling. - Solid experience managing AWS infrastructure (EC2, Lambda, S3, RDS, CloudWatch). - Security‑aware approach to data handling and infrastructure design. - Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities. - Pragmatic problem‑solving mindset with sound judgment in ambiguous situations. - Leadership or mentoring experience for engineering teams. **Optional/Preferred Skills** (not mandatory) - GCP or Azure cloud experience. - Front‑end data‑visualisation (e.g., D3) and dashboard design. - OLTP/OLAP database knowledge (MySQL, BigQuery). - ML research, MLOps, or production deployment of ML models. - Familiarity with LLMs, open‑weight models, and agentic workflows. - Domain knowledge in trade, logistics, or supply‑chain operations. **Required Education & Certifications** - Bachelor’s (or higher) degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience in enterprise software development.
