Job Description
**Job Title:** Software Support (SQL/1st/2nd Line) **Role Summary:** Provide first‑ and second‑line technical support for end‑users of a bespoke software application, with a focus on Microsoft SQL Server database issues. Work collaboratively within a small, office‑based team to ensure reliable software operation and high user satisfaction. **Expectations:** - Respond promptly to support tickets and user inquiries. - Diagnose and resolve software and database problems efficiently. - Maintain accurate documentation of issues, resolutions, and procedures. - Contribute to continuous improvement of support processes. **Key Responsibilities:** - Deliver 1st‑line support: triage incoming requests, gather requirements, and provide immediate assistance. - Escalate and resolve 2nd‑line issues requiring deeper technical analysis, especially SQL‑related problems. - Write, test, and optimize T‑SQL queries, stored procedures, and scripts. - Perform routine database maintenance tasks (e.g., indexing, backups, performance tuning). - Liaise with development and infrastructure teams to reproduce and troubleshoot complex bugs. - Update knowledge base articles and standard operating procedures. **Required Skills:** - Proven experience in a software support role (hardware/PC support not applicable). - Strong working knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server, including T‑SQL, stored procedures, and database maintenance. - Ability to analyze and resolve application‑level issues quickly. - Excellent communication and customer‑service skills. - Strong problem‑solving and analytical abilities. - Familiarity with ticketing systems and ITIL‑based support processes is a plus. **Required Education & Certifications:** - Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, **or** equivalent practical experience. - Microsoft SQL Server certification (e.g., MCSA, MCSE) preferred but not mandatory.
