**Job Title:** Director of Operations (Designated Managing Director) **Role Summary:** Senior leader responsible for driving operational excellence, strategic growth, and people development within a water and infrastructure engineering consultancy. Oversees business operations, project delivery, and client engagement, with a clear succession path to full Managing Director responsibility. **Expectations:** - Lead multi‑disciplinary teams of 50–100 staff. - Ensure safe, compliant, and efficient delivery of water/utilities projects. - Grow the business through new opportunities and strong client partnerships. - Implement governance, commercial controls, and reporting frameworks. - Represent the company to clients, regulators, and partners. - Transition to full Managing Director role within an agreed timeframe. **Key Responsibilities:** - Manage and develop engineering, operations, and support functions. - Monitor operational performance and profitability; control budgets and contracts. - Drive strategic planning, identify growth opportunities, and nurture Tier‑1 contractor relationships. - Establish and maintain robust governance and commercial oversight. - Foster a culture of accountability, technical excellence, and professional development. - Lead organizational change and expansion while preserving culture and quality. - Act as primary public face for the business with stakeholders and regulators. **Required Skills:** - Proven operations/general management experience in water, utilities, or infrastructure. - Leadership of large technical/project teams (50+ employees). - Strong people‑management and performance‑leadership capabilities. - Commercial acumen: budget, contract, profitability management. - Excellent stakeholder, client, and partnership management. - Strategic thinking with hands‑on delivery ability. - Effective communication and change‑management skills. **Required Education & Certifications:** - Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Operations, Business, or related discipline (preferred). - Relevant professional certifications or membership (e.g., CEng, PMP) advantageous but not mandatory.
