**Job title:** Intern – Economic Security and Technology Department (Spring 2026) **Role Summary:** Support data‑driven research and policy analysis within the Economic Security and Technology (EST) Department. Conduct economic and technology trend analyses, prepare literature reviews, and draft policy memos for podcasts and senior staff engagements. **Expectations:** - Complete a 6‑month, full‑time internship (in‑person with occasional remote work). - Produce high‑quality research outputs on U.S. technology competitiveness, trade, and industrial policy. - Deliver memos and presentations within tight deadlines and under pressure. **Key Responsibilities:** - Collect, clean, and analyze economic and technology datasets using Excel (pivot tables, charts) and at least one statistical tool (Python, R, Stata). - Compile literature reviews on macroeconomic, technology, and industrial policy topics. - Draft concise policy memos for bi‑weekly Betting on America podcast episodes and senior staff speaking engagements. - Collaborate with interns and research staff on time‑sensitive assignments and departmental initiatives. - Maintain accurate records of research inputs and outputs. **Required Skills:** - Advanced Excel proficiency (pivot tables, charts, formulas). - Experience with statistical/data‑analysis software (Python, R, or Stata). - Strong research and analytical capabilities in trade, finance, or U.S. technology policy. - Excellent English‑language writing and editing skills; ability to distill complex data into clear, concise memos. - Critical and creative thinking, independent problem‑solving, and strong time‑management. - Effective oral and written communication in a team setting. **Required Education & Certifications:** - Bachelor’s degree earned or in progress (Master’s degree a plus). - No specific certifications required. ---

Job Description
**Job Title:** Senior Fellow – Economic Security and Technology (EST) Front Office **Role Summary:** Senior analyst supporting the President of CSIS’s Economic Security and Technology Department. Leads high‑priority research on patriotic capital, U.S. technology competitiveness, and international economic security; produces policy‑level analyses and briefings; mentors junior staff; and contributes to fundraising and strategic planning. **Expectations:** - Deliver rigorous, policy‑relevant research and publications on schedule. - Communicate findings effectively to government, industry, and allied partners. - Guide and develop Associate Fellows, research assistants, and interns. - Ensure quality and consistency of EST integrative products. - Support department fundraising through proposals and grant reporting. **Key Responsibilities:** 1. Design and execute research projects on: - Patriotic capital and national‑interest investing - Domestic economic & technology competitiveness (e.g., Tech Edge series) - International economic security, allied cooperation, and dollar diplomacy 2. Author/co‑author policy papers, reports, and articles for internal and external audiences. 3. Conduct independent and collaborative quantitative/qualitative analyses; synthesize large data sets. 4. Develop and deliver briefings/presentations to policymakers, private‑sector leaders, and other stakeholders. 5. Mentor and coordinate work of Associate Fellows, research assistants, and interns. 6. Advise research teams on data sources, methodology, and product delivery (Tech Edge Report, country studies). 7. Prepare funding proposals, write grant reports, and assist with departmental strategic planning and operations. **Required Skills:** - Advanced research design and execution (quantitative & qualitative). - Excellent policy‑oriented writing and publishing record. - Ability to identify emerging policy issues and pursue self‑directed research. - Strong stakeholder engagement across government, industry, and allied nations. - Deep knowledge of macro‑fiscal policy, productivity, AI and emerging technologies, and international economic relations. - Proven collaboration and team‑leadership abilities; effective project coordination. - Experience with fundraising proposal development and grant reporting. **Required Education & Certifications:** - Doctorate (PhD) or equivalent terminal degree in economics, public policy, international relations, technology studies, or a closely related field. - Extensive experience within Washington‑based think‑tank or research organizations. - No specific certifications required.
