**Job Title:** Lead English Teacher
**Role Summary:**
Lead and deliver high‑quality English instruction for children and young people aged 8‑16 with Autism Spectrum Disorder and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs in a purpose‑built, state‑of‑the‑art special educational needs (SEND) school. Manage a small cohort (up to 50 pupils), fostering academic progress, self‑esteem, and inclusive participation.
**Expectations:**
- Provide engaging, differentiated teaching aligned with the national curriculum and individual education plans (IEPs).
- Demonstrate resilience, dedication, and a “can‑do” attitude to support pupils through challenging learning journeys.
- Build strong relationships with pupils, colleagues, support staff, and parents to create a cohesive, supportive learning environment.
- Lead the English department, collaborating on curriculum development, assessment strategies, and professional learning.
- Maintain accurate records, progress reports, and compliance with statutory requirements.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Design, plan, and deliver lessons that meet the needs of pupils with SEND, integrating appropriate assistive technologies.
- Assess pupils’ progress, adapt instruction, and provide targeted interventions to achieve measurable outcomes.
- Coordinate with in‑house psychologists, teaching assistants, and therapy professionals to implement holistic support plans.
- Mentor and support junior teachers and teaching assistants within the department.
- Participate in curriculum planning, departmental meetings, and school‑wide initiatives.
- Ensure a safe, inclusive classroom culture that promotes respect, self‑confidence, and academic engagement.
**Required Skills:**
- Curriculum design and differentiation for SEND pupils.
- Strong classroom management and behavior support techniques.
- Effective communication with pupils, colleagues, and parents.

**Required Education & Certifications:**
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
- Degree in Education, English, or related subject (preferred).
- Demonstrated experience teaching in a SEND or special educational setting (senior teaching experience required).
- Additional certifications in SEN or autism support are advantageous.
