**Job Title**
Founding Engineer – AI
**Role Summary**
Build and ship end‑to‑end AI agents that automate the preconstruction workflow of the construction industry. Design and implement large‑language‑model (LLM) driven RAG pipelines, vector databases, and multimodal tools that read construction plans, manipulate Excel budgets, generate RFIs, and provide semantic search across massive document sets. Own the AI stack from Python orchestration to GCP‑based deployment, while collaborating directly with estimators to embed AI into daily bidding processes.
**Expectations**
- 4+ years of hands‑on technical experience in production software.
- Proven track record delivering AI features to real users.
- Comfortable with 0‑→1 product development, wearing many hats (developer, architect, product stakeholder, customer advocate).
- Strong desire to ship reliable, high‑impact AI systems quickly (days, not weeks).
**Key Responsibilities**
1. Design and implement agentic workflows that orchestrate LLM calls, tool use (Procore APIs, Excel, document generation), and long‑running processes.
2. Build scalable RAG pipelines: PDF parsing, OCR, computer‑vision feature extraction, vector indexing, and semantic search.
3. Integrate with existing construction tooling (Procore, spreadsheets) and deliver front‑end experiences for estimators.
4. Own the AI stack: develop Python services (FastAPI, Celery), maintain Docker containers on GCP, manage vector databases, and monitor model quality.
5. Construct evaluation datasets from real construction documents, create SLIs/SLOs, and refine models with feedback from subject‑matter experts.
6. Lead daily operations: model deployment, performance optimization, reliability engineering, and continuous monitoring.
7. Engage directly with customers to understand workflows, gather requirements, and iterate on AI solutions.
**Required Skills**
- **Programming**: Python (FastAPI, Celery), Node.js/TypeScript.
- **AI/ML**: LLM APIs, agentic frameworks, RAG pipelines, vector databases, Langfuse.
- **Data Processing**: PDF parsing, advanced OCR, computer‑vision pipelines, unstructured data handling.
- **Infrastructure**: Docker, GCP (Compute Engine, Cloud Run, Pub/Sub, Spanner/Firestore), Supabase, Celery workers.
- **DevOps**: CI/CD pipelines, container orchestration, monitoring (Prometheus, Grafana) and logging.
- **Full‑stack**: Front‑end integration with banking spreadsheets and document generation tools.
- **Testing & Evaluation**: Build evaluation datasets, create monitoring dashboards, and implement corrective feedback loops.
- **Soft Skills**: Strong communication for client interactions, ability to work autonomously, and product mindset.
**Required Education & Certifications**
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Data Science, or a related field (advanced degrees or equivalent experience acceptable).
