Job Title: College Admissions Counselor
Role Summary:
Provide high‑level academic and admissions guidance to high‑school students (grades 7‑12) and transfer applicants, crafting individualized plans that align coursework, extracurriculars, and application strategies with student goals. Lead families through every step of the application process, ensuring polished, differentiated submissions to selective colleges. Operate independently within a flexible, contract‑based framework, maintaining expert knowledge of admissions landscapes, financial aid, and collegiate recruitment.
Expectations:
* Minimum 5 years of admissions experience as an officer, reader, or counselor in a selective college setting.
* Proven record of placing students in selective institutions, prestigious internships, and advanced academic programs.
* Deep understanding of high‑school curricula (AP, IB), standardized tests (ACT, SAT), and the full spectrum of application portals and school‑specific systems.
* Expertise in athletic recruiting and specialized academic endeavors (DECA, STEM competitions, etc.).
* Ability to create and manage individualized academic and admissions roadmaps, including course selection and gap‑year strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
* Consult with students and families, assessing strengths, interests, and prospective college fit.
* Develop comprehensive playbooks covering early‑decision, restricted early action, early application, and regular‑decision strategies.
* Evaluate resumes, personal statements, essays, and portfolios, offering guidance to enhance differentiators.
* Coordinate extracurricular planning, internships, and academic enrichment to strengthen applications.
* Manage application submissions across Common App, Coalition App, ApplyTexas, and school‑specific portals.
* Advise on financial aid, scholarships, and budgeting for college expenses.
* Conduct ongoing research of school profiles, course catalogs, and emerging academic trends.
* Collaborate with a team of counselors, leveraging shared resources and best practices.
Required Skills:
* Advanced writing, editing, and communication proficiency.
* Leadership and teamwork, motivating students and building strong client relationships.
* Strong organizational skills, managing multiple curricula and deadlines simultaneously.
* Technology fluency: Naviance, Scoir, CollegeBoard, testing platforms, and general productivity tools.
* Empathy, patience, and the ability to inspire confidence in students and parents.
Required Education & Certifications:
* Bachelor’s degree in Education, Counseling, or related field (minimum).
* Master’s in Education (M.Ed.) or Ph.D. considered an advantage.
* Certifications or coursework in college counseling, admissions, or related disciplines preferred.
