**Job Title:**
Team Lead Backend Engineer (Data/API Team)
**Role Summary:**
Lead the design, architecture, and delivery of scalable, low‑latency API infrastructure that serves 60+ TB of GTM data to internal and external consumers. Own end‑to‑end architecture, performance, cost, and reliability while driving engineering best practices, mentoring a small team, and collaborating closely with AI, data, and front‑end stakeholders.
**Expectations:**
- Minimum 5 years of backend engineering experience, preferably in high‑scale systems.
- Proven leadership and mentorship in a fast‑paced, high‑urgency startup environment.
- Ability to own ambiguity, define problems, architect solutions, and ship results quickly.
- Commitment to in‑person work 5 days per week.
**Key Responsibilities:**
1. Architect and implement scalable APIs exposing GTM data.
2. Own large‑scale data access patterns, query optimization, and distributed storage (Node.js, ClickHouse, AWS).
3. Design and enforce API contracts, versioning, rate‑limiting, authentication, and cache invalidation.
4. Build internal tooling to improve observability, CI/CD, testing, and engineering velocity.
5. Mentor junior engineers and set technical direction for the team.
6. Collaborate with AI, data, and front‑end teams to ensure seamless integrations.
**Required Skills:**
- Proficiency in Node.js, AWS services, and ClickHouse (or equivalent columnar database).
- Deep knowledge of REST/GraphQL API design, authentication, rate limiting, pagination, and caching.
- Experience building systems that handle TBs of data with high availability and cost efficiency.
- Strong understanding of distributed systems, performance tuning, and query optimization.
- Leadership, mentorship, and ability to enforce code quality, testing, and best practices.
- Comfort with ambiguity, rapid decision‑making, and delivering under pressure.
**Required Education & Certifications:**
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Optional certifications: AWS Certified Solutions Architect, AWS Certified Developer, or similar.
