Job Description

**Job Title:** Legal Counsel **Role Summary:** Provide commercial legal counsel to an AI‑software company, focusing on commercial contracts, open‑source licensing, data processing agreements, intellectual property, and data privacy. Report directly to the General Counsel and advise senior leadership and product teams in a fast‑moving, innovative environment. **Expectations:** - Deliver clear, practical legal advice that supports commercial objectives. - Manage competing priorities independently and proactively. - Keep abreast of AI, technology law, and open‑source compliance trends and translate them into actionable guidance. **Key Responsibilities:** - Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements and data processing agreements. - Advise on open‑source license compliance and intellectual property strategy. - Ensure data privacy compliance (e.g., GDPR, CCPA). - Collaborate with product and engineering teams to mitigate legal risk. - Provide counsel on disputes, litigation, and emerging regulatory matters. - Monitor and analyze AI, technology, and open‑source legal developments; produce guidance reports. **Required Skills:** - Strong commercial contract drafting and negotiation. - Knowledge of open‑source licensing (GPL, MIT, Apache, etc.). - Understanding of IP and data privacy law. - Commercially minded with the ability to work independently. - Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management skills. - Comfortable working in a fast‑paced, innovative setting. **Required Education & Certifications:** - Qualified solicitor or equivalent legal qualification. - Minimum 3 years post‑qualification experience (ideally in-house). - Certifications in IP, tech law, or data protection are advantageous but not mandatory.
