Job Description
Job title: Newly Qualified Social Worker Role Summary: A newly qualified social worker will join a 24/7 duty-based Adult Social Care Single Point of Access team. The role focuses on short‑term, immediate interventions for adult residents, including risk triage, crisis management, practical support, and community‑based assessments. Working under supervision within the ASYE framework, the professional will manage a short‑term caseload, conduct Caring Act and Mental Capacity assessments, and collaborate with a multi‑agency partner network. Expectations: - Complete the Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE) programme and meet the Professional Capabilities Framework milestones. - Maintain full registration with Social Work England and adhere to DBS and data‑protection obligations. - Demonstrate competence in fast‑paced, high‑risk interventions, including capacity and best‑interest decision‑making. - Apply person‑centred, strengths‑based practice, and organisational skills to meet individual needs. Key Responsibilities: - Triage and assess all community‑based adult referrals, prioritising risk and urgency. - Conduct Care Act 2014 assessments, support planning and coordinate interventions in the community. - Perform Mental Capacity Act 2005 capacity assessments and best‑interest decisions where indicated. - Manage short‑term, duty‑based caseloads, ensuring timely progression and resolution of cases. - Perform home visits for urgent welfare concerns and liaise with housing, police, health services, and voluntary sector partners. - Complete accurate documentation, maintain confidentiality, and comply with data‑protection and safeguarding protocols. - Attend regular supervision, engage in reflective practice, and seek guidance when encountering professional limits. Required Skills: - Strong knowledge of the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005 and safeguarding principles. - Ability to perform rapid risk assessment, crisis intervention, and case prioritisation in a busy environment. - Excellent organisational and time‑management skills. - Effective written and verbal communication, including reporting, risk documentation and multi‑agency coordination. - Capacity to work calmly under unpredictable duty conditions and maintain professional boundaries. - Collaborative mindset for working with internal teams and external agencies. Required Education & Certifications: - Recognised Social Work qualification (e.g., Diploma, BA/MA in Social Work). - Registration with Social Work England (SWE COE). - Current DBS check. - Willingness to complete the ASYE programme.
