Job Description
**Job Title:** Assistant Catering Manager **Role Summary** Support the Head Chef in delivering fresh, balanced meals to school pupils during term time. Lead a small kitchen team, oversee menu preparation, maintain food safety and hygiene standards, and cover managerial duties in the manager’s absence. **Expectations** - Enthusiastic, proactive, and flexible with a “can‑do” attitude. - Consistently maintain high standards of cleanliness, quality, and safety. - Demonstrate strong leadership, motivation, and confidence building for the kitchen team. - Adapt quickly to a fast‑paced environment and embrace continuous improvement. **Key Responsibilities** - Lead and organise the kitchen team (5–7 staff) during scheduled shifts. - Plan, stage, and prepare three‑week menu cycles using fresh produce. - Ensure compliance with food safety, health & safety, and allergen‑labeling regulations. - Conduct audits, record checks, and meet EHO/HS&S expectations. - Maintain the kitchen’s cleanliness, equipment upkeep, and safe storage. - Act as acting manager during absences, making decisions on staffing, inventory, and visitor queries. - Prepare accurate product labels and documentation for lawful compliance. - Identify and implement improvement initiatives in processes, waste reduction, or menu innovation. **Required Skills** - Advanced culinary skills, creativity, and experience with fresh food and balanced menus. - Team leadership, mentorship, and performance management. - Strong knowledge of UK food safety and hygiene regulations. - Excellent organisational, multitasking, and communication abilities. - Proactive problem solving, adaptability, and a sense of accountability. **Required Education & Certifications** - Culinary qualification (e.g., Level 2/3 Diploma in Cookery or equivalent). - Minimum of 3 + years’ experience in a kitchen role with staff‑leadership responsibilities. - Valid DBS (Enhanced) with Barred List Check. - Health & Safety qualification (e.g., HSG101) preferred. ---
