**Job title:** Finance & Operations Manager
**Role Summary:**
Senior finance leader responsible for end‑to‑end financial management, regulatory compliance, and people operations within a fast‑growing venture‑backed company. Balances strategic oversight of statutory accounts, budgeting, forecasting, and cash‑flow with hands‑on operational duties including payroll, onboarding, and compliance training.
**Expectations:**
- Deliver accurate, timely financial reporting and analysis to guide senior leadership decisions.
- Maintain strong internal controls, compliant processes, and data governance across UK and US entities.
- Lead continuous improvement of finance, compliance, and HR operational excellence.
- Mentor and develop the Finance Assistant and support cross‑functional teamwork.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Manage statutory accounts, annual audits, monthly close, budgeting, forecasting, and cash‑flow management.
- Maintain and enhance financial systems, controls, and reporting processes.
- Provide actionable financial analysis and risk insights to senior leadership.
- Oversee inventory management and reconcile stock records with financial systems.
- Coordinate general ledger activities across UK and US, liaising with external US accountants.
- Develop and enforce internal compliance policies (GDPR, HIPAA, other relevant regulations).
- Conduct internal compliance training and maintain governance documentation.
- Process payroll accurately, ensuring statutory deductions and compliance reporting.
- Drive end‑to‑end onboarding and off‑boarding, maintaining compliance with employment law.
- Build and maintain relationships with auditors, advisors, and key stakeholders.
**Required Skills:**
- Certified accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA).
- Proven experience in creating financial statements, general ledger management, and financial reporting.
- Strong analytical, numerical, and Excel modeling capabilities.
- Proficiency with accounting software (QuickBooks, Xero, SAP, etc.).
- Deep understanding of compliance frameworks (GDPR, HIPAA) and data‑management best practices.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently in a fast‑moving startup environment.
**Required Education & Certifications:**
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field.
- ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualification.
- Prior experience in professional services (Big Four) and a venture‑backed startup preferred.
- Experience mentoring finance staff is a plus.
